About Me

Growing up, my parents never taught me about money.  I knew my mom was the saver and my dad was the spender.  Can you guess who I took after?

You're Right...
I was the spender.  I was an emotional spender without any guidelines or structure.  If I needed something I would go and buy it.  If I didn't have the money in hand, I would put the purchase on any one of the credit cards in my wallet.

There wasn't a financial plan in place.

Why?

Because that would put a hamper on my spending habit. That habit was rarely challenged.   I was trying to fill a hole in my heart with the immediate gratification of shopping online. I thought it was amazing to be able to order online and get it the next day or two.

Fast forward 25 years or so

I continued to spend beyond our means.  My wife tried to pinch pennies but couldn’t offset the growing debt that was taking place.  Our debt continued to grow even though my salary had increased.

What got us motivated
it took some financial gut punches to bring us to the point of seeking help. I used Gut Punches
because I felt like a body punching bag. That's how it felt because of the pain that I was experiencing emotionally and physically.

I know how you feel
I can really relate with how you feel.
I've lost sleep over our debt load.

Relationally,
I was at odds with my spouse.

Emotionally,
I was a wreck.

Spiritually,
I knew I was mismanaging
God's money as a steward.

Mentally,
I devoted a lot of time trying to
figure out things on my own.

The DIY program that I was on wasn't working at all.

Think About This

It took some financial gut punches to bring us to the point of seeking help. I used this metaphor "Gut Punches" because I felt like a body punching bag. That's how it felt because of the pain that I was experiencing emotionally and physiology.

Those Gut Punches were not wasted

The pain motivated us to seek help.  My wife had picked up a copy of Dave Ramsey's, "Financial Peace".  We started applying the principles in that book.

We used Dave Ramsey's baby steps to gauge where we were financially and where we needed some work.

Fast forward >>> In less than two years we paid down our debt of $32,000.  We experienced an overwhelming sense of peace. We were and we are so relieved. That simply is PRICELESS!

Principles & Process

I saw the value in applying the principles and processes that we learned.  I didn't stop there; I began putting money aside for the future.  I was really moved by the experience and turned my efforts to getting certified by Ramsey Solutions.  In 2019 I was certified as a Financial Coach Master Trained.  And not too long after that I was certified as a Ramsey Preferred Coach.
